Major Edward C. Segura

Major Edward C. Segura is an Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies, Air Force Reserves Officer Training Corps Detachment 310, at Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is the Unit Admissions Officer responsible for overseeing the unit’s recruiting and scholarship programs and teaches the freshman-level introduction to the Air Force courses.

Major Segura graduated from Louisiana State University in 1993 with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and was selected to attend Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama. Since commissioning, his career has spanned a wide variety of base-level and headquarters assignments. His first assignment was to McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, Kansas, as a personnel officer. In his time at McConnell, Major Segura was Chief, Relocations and Employment and Chief, Customer Support in the Military Personnel Flight.

Major Segura’s second assignment was at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, Louisiana. He started as Section Commander, 96th Bomb Squadron deploying to Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory. When he returned, he was selected for the 2d Bomb Wing Chief, Protocol position where he coordinated two presidential visits and oversaw the wing change of command. Following his tour at Barksdale, he was selected for a challenging Headquarters tour at the Air Force Personnel Center. Starting as Chief, Senior Service School Assignments, Major Segura oversaw the Air Force’s Professional Military Education program for lieutenant colonels in the Air Force and liaised with the other services and foreign nations to meet the program’s focus of educating our officer corps. He then tackled the daunting task of consolidating two officers’ positions into one when he took on the program management for Intermediate Service School assignments, overseeing professional military education for majors as well. He concluded his tour at the Air Force Personnel Center as Chief, Personnel Officer Assignments where he matched assignments for his fellow personnel officers in the Air Force.

From headquarters, Major Segura was selected to fill the critical Military Personnel Flight Commander position at Columbus Air Force Base, Columbus, Mississippi. Under his leadership, the flight overcame numerous challenges, including standing up the Air Force’s new military personnel data system while deploying more than 25% of his flight. Major Segura arrived at his current assignment as Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in July 2004.
