Colonel Fred Guendel
Colonel Fred Guendel is the Commander, AFROTC Detachment 310 and Professor of Aerospace Studies, Louisiana State University. In this capacity, he commands the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment at Louisiana State University, the state’s flagship institution. He is responsible for leadership and administration of the AFROTC program at LSU; preparation—education and training—of 75 cadets for active duty; instruction of 2 college courses—USAF History and Leadership; and representation of the USAF to the university and people of southern Louisiana.
Colonel Guendel was commissioned into the Air Force through the Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1982. He is a Command Pilot with over 2500 flying hours, primarily in the F-16 Fighting Falcon. He has served in a range of command, staff and operational assignments in Air Combat Command, Pacific Air Force, and Air Education and Training Command.
Most recently he was Chief, Air Combat Command Exercises and Joint Training, Headquarters Air Combat Command, VA.
Colonel Guendel and his wife, Diane, of Yulan, NY, have three children, Claire, Nicholas,
and Alexander.
